If you are a fan of poker then World Poker Tour is a great way to enjoy four styles of card games. You will have to start out small and work your way up to the ultimate high stakes poker casinos. Playing against the computer or online against friends, you will be sure to have a good time. All of the excitement of poker from the comfort of your own home.

Five Card Draw, Texas Hold Em, Omaha Hold Em and 7 Card Stud Available

You will be able to play four different variations of poker: five card draw, Texas Hold'em, Omaha Hold'em and seven card stud. In five card draw each player receives five cards and then can choose to either bet, fold or check. Next the player is allowed to discard up to five cards in an attempt to make a better hand. You will then bet again and the player with the best hand wins. Things like straights or flushes are among the highest hands. Omaha Hold'em is played similar to Texas Hold'em only each player receives four cards and each player must use exactly two cards from their hand and exactly three cards from the five community cards.

Work Your Way Up to the Big Time Locations

The goal of World Poker Championship is to get rich by playing poker and winning. You start off only being able to play in Madigan's, the low stakes casino. After you have earned $50,000 you can pay your way into the next casino which offers higher stakes and more challenging opponents. There are 20 different computer opponents to play against, each one has strengths and weaknesses. There are a total of six locations you can play at, each costing more than the last to unlock. You can also play multiplayer online, but since there are many newer games available the online community is virtually nonexistent.

Decent Graphics

The graphics in World Poker Championship are adequate for a poker game. All of the computer opponents are represented but you will only see one at a time so you can watch them bet. The sounds are minimal and mostly consist of announcers who make comments about what is happening. There are a small number of comments they make so they can get annoying. Overall the graphics and sound don't do anything to add to the game, but they also don't detract from it either.

Not Much Bluffing

In the first casino it is very difficult to earn any money because the computer players are very timid and rarely ever bet large sums. When you have to go from $5,000 to $50,000 and the average pot is less than $50 you might find yourself getting frustrated. Certain games seem to have more willing bets than others so if you want to make money fast you will have to get in on one of those games. Also a lack of bluffing on the computers part takes out a key element of poker.

Conclusion - A Decent Poker Sim

Whether you want to hone your skills at poker or you just like the game but don't want to risk any real money, then World Poker Championship is worth a try. There are probably better games on the market that would have more elements of real life poker and a better online community, but you could definitely learn a thing or two from this game.
