Pogo Games - Division of Electronic Arts

Pogo.com is one of the most popular game sites on the Internet. The site features Pogo online games, Club Pogo, and Pogo To Go downloadable games. The site is heavily supported by advertising but for a subscription fee to Club Pogo, you can have the ads removed. One stand out feature of the site is the awarding of cash prizes. Win a game or certain number of levels and you have a chance to win. I could not find anywhere on the site the odds of winning however.

Subsections of Pogo Games:

Pogo Online Games are a collection of Electronic Arts games adapted for online play and popular games from other developers. Popular Pogo game titles here include: bingo, bridge, pool, spades, Poppit, chess, slots, and more. The online games include a chat feature to talk with other players and receive messages from Pogo. Unless you pay for a subscription, the games are heavily ad supported and tend to load and run slowly, some to the point of unplayability. Selection is good but the slowness will really bother many people.

Club Pogo is a subscription based service with several benefits. At the time of this review, fees were $4.95 a month or $29.95 a year. Subscribing to Club Pogo gives you ad-free playing, extra chances to win cash prizes, games only available to club members, and Pogo badges. Exclusive titles to Pogo Club members include: Word Whomp, Mahjong Garden, Word Jong, Fortune Bingo and more.

Pogo To Go is the game download section of the site. Categories include Puzzle, Word, Card, and Arcade games. This section features many similar games to Download-Free-Games.com but includes some of Pogo’s own games like Poppit To Go and Mahjong Garden To Go. Pogo now sells some of their own games through retail stores that sell computer software. Overall the selection here is a bit below average and targets the casual gamer.

Bottom Line:

The Pogo site must be seen as part of a larger whole, specifically the Electronic Arts Network. The site is one of their most popular and appeals to the casual gamer. The inducement of cash prizes is sure to attract many players. The major drawback is the slowness and ad-frequency for non-subscribers. Selection for online games is strong but weak for downloads. Despite this, Pogo remains one of the most popular game sites on the Internet as of this review.
