A solid RTS experience, Dec 03, 2009

As a veteran RTS gamer, I am often presented with great strategy games and abysmal games. Ground Control 2 is certainly not the latter. A polished game, GC2 says, “Forget base building! Let’s just drop in some dudes and watch them blow each other up!” This belies the deep and often times difficult tactical engagements which requires patience and dexterity to survive the enemy Terran Empire and the enslaved race of aliens that you also face. Graphics-wise, this was a fantastic looking game…..several years ago. Personally, it still looks great, but Company of Heroes this ain’t. Sounds are decent and convey the tone and chaos of battle, though I would have preferred a more bombastic soundtrack. As far as content goes, this isn’t a game for young kids. In the opening cinematic alone, a soldier uses the s-word. Another unit in the game says cray-s***. There is a fair amount of violence including exploding meat chunks of human and alien troopers, though it isn’t particularly detailed or anything. All in all, the game is a great addition for the older gamer and offers a decent challenge for those brave enough to wade into the game.
