It has good sound and some info, so you can learn about things and it passes the time. There is lots of time to plan and you move first.

You have to have a good plan to win but when you are out numbered you also have to flank them. Its a little hard but you’ll get the hang of it and be sure to not over think out your enemy. Its your own system, so its you vs cpu and its hard but fun.

Great Real Time Strategy Game, Jan 16, 2010
by Jarrad Victor (El Paso, TX)
I liked the game very much because I am a civil war buff. I liked how you can use the cavalry to beat the artillery, artillery beats infantry and infantry beat cavalry. Very good fighting scene graphics for a game of this type. I also enjoyed how you can use the terrain to your advantage and your opponents disadvantage.

Gettysburg Review, Jan 15, 2010

This game is what civil war nuts like me would want! Great graphics, excellent sound, great combat, and most of all super accurate units and battlefields. Without a doubt a 2 thumbs up, 5 star game!

tactics, visual, sounds... its worth it., Dec 09, 2009
by John Amersfort (Falls Church, VA USA)
No strategy required to understand the instructions and download the game and yet a player’s cunning tactics can readily be employed during the course of this game in a very realistic setting. The basic fighting is truly simple but none of the fun would exist without the visuals and sound. Also the function of artillery is not well explained, but just moving these battalions around gives a sense of power and intelligence. What if the south had won?

Excellent gaming experience, Nov 27, 2009

This game has everything a civil war nut, like myself, could hope for. It has the story, it has the facts, and it has the battles!!! If you don’t think it has “The BEST graphics”, so what? It’s still a fun game and I love it. If you finish the game, it has skirmishes and online multiplayer. 5 stars, hands down.

This game had a lot of good aspects about it, good strategy and graphics, but some parts of the controls can be annoying, and some parts are very difficult. Overall, I would recommend the free trial, but I would not spend your money on this game. I think the controls are difficult because some of the hotkeys (keys used as shortcuts instead of the mouse) can be spread far apart and difficult to get to quickly, and some of the parts of the game on the medium difficulty setting feel a lot more like extra hard settings.

Great game except for a little bugs, Aug 11, 2009

This is almost completely realistic. It gives you a hands on view of each army and they move realistically. The formations are pretty accurate and the positions they take are almost real. I do wish that there were more formations to choose from and that you can get a first-person view of he game. But I guess these are just my preferences. The programmer sure did a nice job with this game, giving it nice colors. You could learn a lot from this game in an educational purpose. All in all, I would definitely recommend this game to all of my friends.

Best CW Game I have played, Aug 02, 2009
by Patrick (Austin, TX USA)
I have been playing Civil War games since Sid Meyers Gettysburg. This particular game has all the features I have ever looked for in CW gaming and is a pure pleasure to play. I would love to see the same technology and game play advanced to a full out campaign of the entire war and not limited to one single battle.

BEST FIGHTING GAME, Jul 20, 2009
by S.M.Mubashir Abbas Kazmi (Lahore, Pakistan)
I have played many games till today like Commando, IGI, Virtual Cop etc. but a time came at which I felt bored from these games. These games are a little exciting at the start, but started to bore me after playing for sometime. Then I started to find an exciting, enjoyable and highly intense game in which excitement never ends. At last I found American Civil War which is not just an exciting game but also a very brilliant and enjoyable game. I never got bored while playing this game and now whenever I find sometime to play a game, I only play American Civil War. I also told all my relatives and friends that if you want to play an exciting game try American Civil War. Now they all are playing only American Civil War. Whenever all my friends assemble, we play American Civil War.
The graphics of the game are really good. The game is really challenging. It is full of excitement. The suspense in game is excellent. This is a very pleasurable game. The tension of any person can be released by this game. I feel no doubt to call this game a Mind Relaxing game. In my opinion this is the best game I have ever played and I believe that no game better than “American Civil War” exists.

It's the Yankee Doodlist game., Jul 09, 2009
by Brian Williams (Oshawa, Ontario Canada)
While I generally prefer RTS war games, THIS game is fantastic for a turn based game. The graphics are much better than the usual turn based war games. It’s also a family friendly game having no bad language or graphic violence. The defensive bonuses that are given to buildings, woods and other terrain types is something that is missing in a lot of strategy war games for the computer.
The historical accuracy is another great feature of the game, which is another shortfall of many games of this type. They may have historical battles but the accuracy isn’t quite there. For 20 bucks, this game is an awesome deal. Lots of fun to play and you even get a bit of an education whilst playing it. I ranked this game a 4 because of graphics, an easy to use interface and the details that went into making it.
The only down point to the game is, units will not defend themselves if fired upon if they haven’t been ordered to do anything.

The Civil war review, Jul 07, 2009
by anthony (grayling, MI USA)
The hour I had to play it was short but an entertaining hour. The good things this game has is graphics, you can see people and battles all the good stuff, and the controls, anyone could pick up the game and play. I did liked the multilayer mode and how you could create battles. One thing I would like if you could use boats and/or ships. It was worth downloading and the price was just perfect for this game. The people that like strategy and war games would probably like this game. Even without the boats and ships I give this game a 5/5 rating.

American Civil War: Gettysburg War, Jun 23, 2009
by Gavin Mades (Holmen, WI USA)
The “American Civil War: Gettysburg” is a thrilling and life changing game. You can fight on two sides, the Confederation and the Union. You can use cavalry for horse fighting and they have advantages and disadvantages. You can also use soldiers which are the main force in the game. When you take control of the troops in battle, there are mainly soldiers and sometimes cavalry and not often cannons. As for the cannon artillery, when you use them you want them to go on hills and you have to really protect them because they are weak at close range. The life changing part is that you can learn how the battles in Gettysburg really happened so you can get some history from the game. So buy the game and have the most fun you have ever had and learn some of the history of war, but mainly have the most fun you have ever had and maybe ever will.

My son is learning about the civil war and he was excited to play this game. The facts come alive and he is excited to learn more about history.
