Not your average RPG, Aug 16, 2011
by Hwo Dragon (Illinois)
Don’t judge this RPG by it’s simple graphics, lack of sound, or anything that might discount it as amazing, because “amazing” is the correct word to describe it. I’ve played this game for a while and I’ve never beaten it. In fact, only once have I ever escaped the dungeon alive, and that was because the unexpected entrance of a boss cut short my killing spree on level 5. After playing Nethack for a while I get a little chill of excitement whenever I find a scroll, not knowing if it will messily rip my head off or make me powerful beyond measures. In an exciting dungean game like Nethack you very quickly learn that just because it looks cool, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to read it or stick it on your head. Nethack is an amazing experience that I enjoy over an over again, each time promising myself I will NEVER PLAY THIS GAME AGAIN, and then next thing I know, another one of my poor unfortunate little charries gets his face ripped off by a monster.
If only I could rate more than 5 stars
If only.

Best Rogue clone around, May 02, 2010
by Eric Parston
Far from a Diablo rip-off, or an “ordinary” RPG, nethack is one of the oldest and best RPGs around. It was originally written when a text console was the norm, so pretty graphics are obviously not its best feature. What is, however, is near infinite replay value, as most levels are randomly generated. It is also incredibly tricky, you are guaranteed to die before level 10.
In my opinion, it is one of the best games going, despite its lack of plot. It compensates more than enough with extremely good replay value and an insane difficulty.

This is a okay RPG but, iv’e seen better, it is tricky and hard at some times. By the view and everything it’s a little like Diablo, if your a fan of Diablo this is the perfect game for you. It’s addicting at some times and would make it in my top 70 list.
