SandScript Review

SandScript is a hangman like game that has you race against the clock to decipher as many words as you can in the given time frame. This game has three different modes, and the main goal is to help the genie recover his powers. Through uncovering words with the help of a small and vague definition you earn points, stars, and advance on your quest to help the genie.

3 Different Game Modes

The three modes of SandScript are Genie's Quest, 1001 Nights, and Sultan's Challenge. Genie's Quest is an all encompassing game that has you on a word deciphering adventure to help the genie recover his powers. In Genie's Quest, which has almost the same exact premise as 1001 Nights, you are under pressure to figure out unknown words, with the help of definitions. Each word you spell gives you 5,000 points and bonus points are added for the number of correct letters you've found in a row and the number of lives you have left. Also, the faster you spell, the more points you earn. The goal of each level is to advance by meeting the minimum requirement, while simultaneously shooting for the 60,000 point expert goal. Successful spelling and reaching the expert level unlocks a bonus level that is another great way to earn points.

The Bonus level is identical to the game mode “Sultan's Challenge.” In this you select the length of words you want to spell and then you spell words of the selected length from scrambled letters. You are allowed three incorrect attempts and points are awarded according to the length of the words you are attempting to spell. Three-letter words award you 100 points a word, while six-letter words are worth 3,000. Like in Genie's Quest there is a time limit and you must spell as many words as you can in the given time. For the bonus levels, points are added to your total score, while in Sultan's Challenge the points are independent of other modes.

Unlockable Items and Achievements

One cool feature of the game is the unlockable items option. As you succeed you earn rewards and trophies for your achievements. Rewards can be granted from things like 20 letters in a row, or successfully figuring out a certain amount of words. These unlockables make it so you have more to strive for and work for as you play. They give you reason to play, while adding to replayability (you might want to replay to unlock all the trophies).

Monotony is one of the only major flaws of this game. You might find yourself getting bored with executing the same objectives over and over, level to level. The bonuses help break-up this experienced monotony, however, the bonuses and game mode “Sultan's Challenge” could easily get old too. Also, this game does not have a multiplayer option or online capabilities. Understandably most word games do not have these capabilities, however, there are games on the market that have incorporated these elements so SandScript lags in this area.

Conclusion - A Decent Hangman Style Game

Overall, SandScript is an okay game that players interested in hangman or testing their knowledge of definitions and words might find interesting. Unlike most games in the genre the main focus is not on creating words from scattered levels. This is more about identifying words from their definitions in a hangman fashion. Younger players, especially those with smaller vocabularies, probably will find this game too confusing and difficult.

SandScript is a fair game, but does not distinctly set itself away from other games in the genre well enough. Give the free download a try, but also consider other games in the genre, as they may be more conducive to your spelling wants.
