Faerie Solitaire Review

Clear the cards and meet the level objectives to earn enough energy to free the trapped faeries! Faerie Solitaire will have you clicking furiously and planning your moves carefully in order to beat each hand, earning energy and money to buy powerups and solve the mystery to save the faeries. Full of solitaire fun and unique side-quests like evolving pets, Faerie Solitaire is a fun game for anyone looking for a unique solitaire experience.

TriPeaks Style Solitaire

The gameplay is very similar to games like TriPeaks. The cards are arranged with some face down and some face up. You are given a starter card which determines which cards you may clear. The goal is to clear all the cards, or as many as you can, by clicking on cards either directly above or below the starter card in value. For example, if the starter card is a 7, you can clear either a 6 or an 8. If you choose 6, you can then either clear a 7 or a 5, and so on.

If you get stuck and can't clear any more, there is a stack of face down cards that will give you another starter card. But be careful! There are a limited number of starter cards to use and a lot of cards to clear. Every card you clear give you a monetary bonus, as does sequencing (clearing multiple cards in a row without using another starter card) and various other events.

Difficulty Levels and Game Modes Help Customize Your Experience

Each level has 9 hands to play, and it doesn't matter if you clear all the cards or not on most hands. There are different objectives for every level, so one level might require you to get two perfects (completely clearing a hand of cards), while another might ask that you earn a certain amount of money to move on. There are also three modes of gameplay: Adventure (as described above), Quickplay (which allows you to play any levels you have already cleared), and Challenge (which is timed play). Additionally, Faerie Solitaire offers three levels of difficulty that can be changed at any time.

More Challenges the Deeper You Go

As you progress through the levels, gameplay gets more difficult. This is because there are more things to do than simply click cards as you reach the higher levels. For instance, eventually some columns of cards will be covered with thorns, unable to be cleared. There is a rose above a different column, and the thorn-covered column will not be accessible until you have cleared the one with the rose. There will also sometimes be cards that are frozen, which you can't clear until you find and use a fire card, which melts all the ice. This makes the game itself a lot more fun to play because there is a lot more to do than simply click cards.

Some Fun Bonuses and Achievements to Work Toward

As you clear the cards, several things are uncovered by the removal of the cards. Some of these are eggs and the rest are resources. Eggs can be hatched into pets, and the resources are used to evolve the pets. Once the pets evolve you learn a secret about them. This is a fun little addition, and makes for something interesting to work towards. Another thing to strive for are the achievements, which are rewards for various accomplishments in-game. They are basically trophies and are displayed in the main menu, so you have the opportunity to view how awesome you are and to see what you need to do to earn other achievements.

Directed At a Younger Audience

Faerie Solitaire is also geared towards a very niche audience based on the storyline and premise of the game. While entertaining and cute, the game is definitely directed at a younger audience. The voiceovers are incredibly cheesy and overdone to the point of being just ridiculous. The storyline is not terribly well developed and doesn't actually explain much until near the end. This really limits the audience interested in playing Faerie Solitaire, but it doesn't detract from the gameplay or quality of the game too much, because you can skip all the badly done cut scenes if you so desire.

Conclusion - Good Variety and Fresh Gameplay

In general, Faerie Solitaire is an entertaining, cute game that is really pretty well done. The gameplay is fun and addicting, it has plenty of variety with the three modes of play and three difficulty levels, and the objectives change with each level, keeping play fresh. Earning the achievements and evolving all the pets will keep you playing past one playthrough, and some people will be truly interested in discovering what is happening to Faerie Land. If you are looking for a unique, cute solitaire-type game that is very intuitive and fun to play, stop looking and play Faerie Solitaire.
