DQ Tycoon is less of a game and more of a marketing ploy by Dairy Queen. As the game starts you become Emily, a girl with a loser boyfriend, needing to make some extra cash. Emily tries to climb the corporate ladder by starting as an ice cream girl at a local DQ.
According to the game's shameless advertising undertones, Dairy Queen is a perfect corporation to work for because of the care it gives its employees as well as its “investment in the community.” As the weeks go by and your success becomes evident, Emily does in fact progress as a manager for Dairy Queen. Emily lives the “American Dream,” working hard and reaping its benefits.
As far as gameplay and overall quality are concerned, this game is lacking. There is no substance. Week-to-week you complete the same tedious action, which is mouse clicking to direct Emily and your other employees around. The achievements you earn are just new ice cream menu items that add very little to the game. Initially the game is entertaining; however, after an hour of executing the same tasks just in different forms, the game becomes tiresome and monotonous.
There is really no strategy in the game, besides getting products to your customers as quickly as you can. This monotony and lack of strategy are the game's pivotal drawbacks, There is no incentive to keep playing.
All in all it feels as though the developers spent more time developing the game's theme rather than the gameplay. The game is really simple and is filled with shameless Dairy Queen propaganda. It lacks strategy and the tasks of the game are too easy and becoming boring. If you are a serious player looking for a thought provoking strategy game this is not for you. However, if you are a casual player looking for a simple time waster, you may want to invest in downloading the free trial.
