Cute Knight Review

A More Socially Oriented RPG

Cute Knight is an interesting and unique role-playing game (RPG) that has you take control of a young girl for three years as she works and learns in a small medieval town. You'll need to balance working, learning, rest, and gold in your efforts to secure a bright future.

The quick and easy nature of this game makes it a perfect choice for any casual players. A variety of different endings based on your play gives plenty of reason to play several times over. A variety of jobs to perform and subjects to learn bring something besides just battle to this RPG. There's also a dungeon that will let you take on weird and fierce creates in battle if you desire. This game isn't without its flaws, but is still good.

Pick a Career and See What Happens

Gameplay is Cute Knight is a bit different from most other RPGs. You play as an 18 year old girl, who you name and select the birth month for. The birth month is important since it will determine the stats and abilities of your character. The stats and abilities are what determines what kind of jobs your character can perform and be successful at.

Lots of Replay Value

Once you've selected a name and birth month, you begin playing in a town with several buildings including a school, inn, store, dungeon, and more. You'll have up to three years to work and learn. The jobs you take on, the level of your skills, and your participation in various events all determine the fate of your character once the game ends. This adds some replay value, since you can play through the game several times over to see the different endings.

Work, Work, Work!

The bulk of play in the game consists of performing various jobs. You go to one of the various town buildings, and then ask for a job. The pay can be a set amount per day (like 4 gold), or may come from times and vary greatly from day to day. You perform this job for a week (of game time), and then can rest, learn, or get a job again (the same one or a different one). The type of job you pick will affect what stats you improve and the stats of your character affect the performance on the job.

You can also use gold from your jobs to go to school and learn for a week, increasing your stats even faster. You'll need to watch your health points carefully, however, as they decrease after each day. Every so often, you'll need to rest to restore your health. You can also choose to go to the dungeon (after buying weapons and armor), where you can find various creates to fight off (along with other surprises).

Can Be Repetitive

One downside to the gameplay is the repetitive nature of all the tasks. You perform jobs by clicking and button to start them and then waiting a week for them to finish, which can get fairly boring. Learning is the same as well. It doesn't matter what you're learning or what job you take, the only differences are in the stats that you earn and a small, simple animation that you're shown.

A Tutorial Would Be Nice

Another issue is the lack of a tutorial of introduction to the game. You're thrown into the action without any real knowledge on the stats or jobs, so you're basically left to experiment. This means you may have to play through the game a few times (it can go fairly quickly) to get the hang of things.

Basic Graphics and Sound

The graphics in Cute Knight are fairly basic and 2D in nature. This isn't uncommon for some RPGs, but the graphics really aren't even on par with other similar games. They're meant to be fairly simple and cartoony, but the quality just isn't there and can put off some players. The sound effects and music are a bit repetitive and don't really stand out, but don't really detract from the game in any way.

Conclusion - For Those Who Like Character Development Over Fighting

Cute Knight is a game that probably won't appeal much to hardcore or more experienced RPG players. However, this game is an excellent choice that will have a lot of appeal to any casual player or player new to RPGs. There are some issues like low graphical quality and repetitive gameplay, but those won't really matter to the players who will enjoy this game. The quick and easy play allows you to jump right into the action and reap rewards even with a limited time to play.

There are plenty of different endings for you to earn, giving you a reason to play this game several times over. You can go into the dungeon and face off against various creatures in battle, or work on improving your stats through work and school. If this sounds like the game for you, don't wait to give it a try.
