Think you know how to run a country?
Here is your dream - become President or Prime Minister and influence your voters to stay in power!
Democracy is a detailed political simulation where each turn of the game represents 3 months of time. In that turn, you can usually make 2 key policy decisions - either create a new policy (like pollution controls) or adjust a current policy (like allotting more money for state schools).
Make your policy decisions wisely!
Every policy decision you make in Democracy will have an effect on certain groups of voters. Parents may like your increased handgun restrictions but you will lose ground with Patriots. Religious voters might like an emphasis on Creationism in schools but Liberals won't.
There are several main categories of policies including Foreign Policy, Environment, Economy, Law & Order, Taxes and Transportation. You will have to choose your policies carefully because there is only so much money in the Treasury and you risk losing voter confidence with every decision.
After 4 years of game time there is an election. The game has a complex internal model to represent the population of your country and how they will vote for you.
Are you ready to test out your leadership and political abilities? Take control of any one of 10 different countries including the US, UK, and Australia and see how long you can be a successful leader!

Excellent Political Sim, Jul 13, 2009
by Adrian Nagy (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
Democracy is a game where you are the leader of a country and you try to balance all the policies and issues facing your nation. This proves very difficult because most policies will make some people happy and other people upset. In order to fix this you must balance the policies throughout the game so that they appeal to every demographic. The game proves very difficult and somewhat explains why some politicians are slow to do things that seem like “no-brainers.” also some policies may trigger crises Ex: cheap imports, debt crisis, asthma epidemic. Fixing these is very costly and time consuming but it pleases everyone more often than not. In addition the background music was excellent and while the game loads it shows quotes from various politicians Ex: “If you try to please everyone, someone’s not gonna like it!” over all I thought that it was an excellent game and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in political simulation games.

Best recent Political simulation, Dec 09, 2007

It’s a political simulation, so don’t expect flashy graphics. It’s not what it’s intended for.
This game is built on a solid Simulation engine. Every decision you take is going to influence the mood of voters differently whether they are rich, poor, leftist, or right-wing, car owner, or thee hugger.
Once the election approaches you have to start making promises, and hold’em if you get re-elected. And as in real life, sometimes events pop-up on the national scene and you have to make critical policy statement that very well make some angry at you.
Over all a very interesting game

Thought Provoking Game for Politicos, Dec 08, 2007
by Matt (Virginia)
If you have an interest in political structure, and domestic policy this game is for you. It requires a tremendous attention to small details, but effectively demonstrates the effect small policies have on a political structure. Democracy does not offer much in terms of graphics and action but creates a variety of challenging scenarios that require one to think about the effect one decision could have on the economy of a nation and the reaction of its body politic.
The game gives the player the freedom to act within a given sphere with realistic restrictions that force one to stretch out an economic or political agenda. This is one of the challenges of the game. The player is given opportunities to cut spending in one agency and raise different forms of taxes. Balance a budget and bring a government out of debt. There is not much in terms of foreign interaction and interaction with Congress or other government branches.
All in all though, a very fun game!
